Roses

Setting: real world, presumably Genre: Slice of life Summary: Handmade gifts are the best Notes: prompted by Eliza and Herm Words: 100

Fiction

The hardest part of the handmade anniversary gift for his girlfriend had been keeping it a surprise.

He’d bought the cloth and wire himself in a hurry during a lunch break, and sneaked away short working sessions, scattered over months.

She went wide-eyed when he presented her with a bouquet of satin roses. She seemed a little confused, though.

“You were so sad when the first flowers I gave you wilted.”

“Ah. And so unique. You don’t see green roses often.”

He answered her smile with a sheepish one. “Maybe I should have asked the vendor for more help.”
